I had several opportunities today to experience the generosity of others and in that experience to recognize the providence of God. First, an email reminded me that it is almost time for a six month report on a grant we received through the Catholic Volunteer Network’s “From Service to Sisterhood Initiative”. The Conrad Hilton Fund made the funds available and we were able to grow our AVE: After Volunteer Experience program. Because of that generous gift six women will have an opportunity to transition from their year of volunteer service by spending one to three months living with us in New Mexico and processing the experience.
Next was a stack of thank-you notes for donations to Proyecto Santo Niño (www.proyectosantonino.org). Many of the donors sustain us with a monthly gift that comes with “no-strings-attached”. Few of them have ever met us or visited the center in Anapra but they believe in the ministry and are generous in remembering the needs of “the least ones”. Another called with a great supply of large diapers that she had collected for us. Always the call comes and the donation arrives just when we have given away the last of our supplies. It reminds me not to be stingy with the gifts we receive. The more I give away, the more God provides.
Later in the day I contacted a friend I haven’t seen in years to ask a huge favor. In a detailed text message I explained what I needed. I apologized for the imposition but I trusted that she would understand. I said a prayer, asking to be able to receive the help of others with gratitude, as I hit “Send”. In a matter of minutes I received her response: “What a blessing to be able to help in this way 🙂 ”
